Spring 2015
Memorial Day 2015--We had lots of visitors at the Saddlemire Homestead before and after the parade. They enjoyed cookies on the porch and received our new brochure for self-guided tours of the collection.

Doesn't the homestead look great with its new paint job and restored shutters? Thanks to the Town of Knox. We installed window fans to circulate the air and cool us off this summer.

New contributions: The Knox Historical Society recently received several items from the former Gage Stock Farm. Dennis Barber, left, explains that “Gardener’s Pride” is dehydrated manure while Jenn Geckler admires the hand-painted advertising show card.

Sharing our Heritage
In 2014 we reissued the 1972 Knox Sesquicentennial book. We've donated copies to local libraries and schools. More about the story here.

Exhibit: The Guide-board to Health, Peace, and Competence
We loaned our display about this fascinating book to the Berne Public Library for its first exhibit using the new wall system. More about The Guide-board here.

From the library: The display unit for the community room was installed by Scott Green and is ready to use. Thanks again to PinchPenny Threads for the feedsack apron benefit that earned money for this equipment. The first display was created and set up by John Elberfeld of the Knox Historical Society.Pictures and quotes  from Dr. W. W. Hall's book, The Guide-board to Health, Peace and Competence describe how to reach a happy old age. The leather-bound book published in 1869 can be found in the Saddlemire Homestead, Knox. This display is for all age groups. Although some of Dr. Hall's ideas are amusingly out-dated, others still apply today such as getting exercise even if it is cold outside.
