MEMBERSHIP ACTIVITIES
Our goal is to preserve, protect, and promote historic culture in the Town of Knox through our research, publications, and educational programs. Members of Knox Historical Society contribute to this goal in many ways:
  • Serving on the board of Officers or Trustees
  • Acquiring additions to our collection of artifacts related to the history of Knox
  • Maintaining a collection of over 800 historical artifacts at the Saddlemire Homestead
  • Staffing the Saddlemire Homestead museum during the warmer months
  • Giving tours at the Saddlemire Homestead as requested
  • Stocking a small gift shop with framed maps, historic literature, and pill box reproductions at the Saddlemire Homstead
  • Answering queries about the history of Knox
  • Writing and publishing literature related to the history of Knox
  • Writing and publishing articles about Knox Historical Society and the history of Knox
  • Sponsoring cultural lectures, presentations, and events
  • Acquiring and installing new historic roadside markers
  • Collaborating with other individuals or groups to present programs and work on special projects
  • Participating in the Suitcases of History project
  • Maintaining the Knox Historical Society website and email newsletter
  • Working with the Town of Knox, which owns and maintains the Saddlemire Homestead
  • Cooperating with the Albany County History Collaborative

Our meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month (except November) at the Knox Town Hall at 7:00 p.m. We frequently have guest speakers at our meetings.

During the summer months, when the Saddlemire Homestead is open, we hold several family-friendly programs or events related to Knox history and our collection. Knox Historical Society meetings, programs, and events are free and open to the public.

If you're interested in becoming an active member or in supporting our efforts financially, we invite you to join us. You can obtain more information about membership by contacting an Officer or Trustee of the Society.
